Quote of the Day "For driving, a January thaw was always preferable to actual ice, but when it was over things froze more treacherously than before. And in its melting and condensing the roadside snow turned to clumps reminiscent of black-spotted cauliflower. Better never to have thawed." ― Lorrie Moore, A Gate at the Stairs

Coding, Collaboration, and Creativity!
Our 5th-grade class just wrapped up an exciting Sphero Bolt challenge! The students were tasked with designing and building sleds to help Santa deliver presents to three different houses on a festive map filled with trees and obstacles.
After collaborating with the senior class to design and build their sleds, the 5th graders took the reins. They block-coded their way through the challenge, ensuring Santa had enough time at each house to make his deliveries.
Way to go, future engineers and coders!

Before Christmas break, the 3rd graders learned a Christmas carol from Mexico. The song spoke of bunuelos which are a donut-like pastry that is commonly made and eaten for Christmas and other festivals. I challenged them that if they could remember the song and what bunuelos were that I would make some for them when we returned from break. They succeeded so I tried my hand at making some bunuelos for the first time and we got to enjoy them today! It's so fun to learn about other cultures and customs through music!

Scranton School will start on time! Roads have a glaze of light snow on them and travel speeds are reduced. Buses will make the routes but will reduce speed as needed. Drive safely everyone and let's have a great day at school!

Just went for a little drive. I am thinking in the morning I may need some road reports from any Scranton School Stakeholders. I'll be getting out early to check roads, but as always, it is a big school district and the roads can be much different from one side of the district to the other. Do not hesitate to text me in the morning with some road reports so I can make the best decision possible for our students and bus drivers. 701-523-6166

Soups and Hoops!
