Back to School

Oh my! Where has the summer gone? I hope you are having a great summer vacation and are preparing for another great school year. I have a few important reminders for you.  The 2024-2025 school year will officially begin on August 19. The school day will once again run from 8:25 AM until 3:15 PM. If your children ride a bus route, your route driver will contact you with the time of pickup in the morning.

We are excited to have most of our staff returning, but we have a few new faces joining our team. Miss Courtney Miller will return to her old stomping grounds as our new 7-12 Science teacher. Mrs. Heather Salzsieder will be welcoming our new incoming Kindergartners as their first teacher in the big building. With this hire, Mrs. Rachelle Bergstrom is moving into the 3rd grade classroom. We also will be bringing back our in-house business classes as we will have Mrs. Laura Weber bringing a fresh perspective into that program.  We are also working on adding a paraprofessional for the upcoming school year and should have that position filled by day one. We are excited to have these great individuals join our team!

Student meal tickets are $3.50 per meal for yearly tickets and $3.55 for daily individual tickets. The yearly price for a meal ticket is $612.50 per student. Student meal tickets must be purchased prior to the student eating in the program or arrangements must be made ahead of time. If a balance exists on the previous year's account, please develop a plan to work towards getting this balance paid off. I would like to encourage everyone to fill out a free and reduced priced meal form in the event you qualify to receive benefits. The North Dakota State Legislature passed a bill this past spring making qualifications much wider in scope. This application is short, and the information remains confidential. Many of the federal programs we receive funds through use the percentage of free and reduced priced meals to determine our funding. Our lunch program is also better subsidized for these meals. A family's income can be quite high and still qualify for reduced priced meals. The form is included in this newsletter, and we have other forms available in the office ready to be picked up upon request. Please take the time to fill out this form and turn it into the school office.

Parents also enjoy rights under the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA). This law affords parents certain rights regarding our conduction of surveys, collection and use of information for marketing purposes, and certain physical exams. More details about PPRA are in this newsletter.

Once again Scranton Public School will be in excellent condition when the students return. Our staff has worked hard to make Scranton School a top-notch facility. We have made updates to our playground, added some fresh wax in all areas of the school and a fresh coat of paint in many spaces as well. If you run into our custodial staff, give them a shout out for keeping our old building shiny and great looking.

2024-2025 can be our best year yet at Scranton Public School. This year I want to challenge our students and staff to push forward and elevate their well-being. We want to make sure we set ourselves up for enormous success. Making great choices is the key to finding that success. Take care of your body, mind, and other personal needs. Life is full of walls or mountains to climb. Let us support one another in all endeavors so we can live our best lives. I cannot say it enough. SHOW UP! Give it your ALL! Let's Soar together to new heights! Go Hawks!

Sincerely,

Kelly Pierce

Superintendent
